Studies show that access to pre-primary education can reduce grade repetition, decrease dropout rates, and improve the overall well-being of the learner and their community. Prior to the pandemic, only 50 percent of children worldwide were enrolled in pre-primary education. In lower and middle income countries, as few as 20 percent had access. Today, even fewer children are attending because of the pandemic. USAID created a Pre-Primary Education Guidance Note to help education practitioners learn more about designing high-quality pre-primary education activities. Better educational outcomes lead to more opportunities later in life, driving overall economic growth.
